TEXT OF CHRISTMAS, 1987 STATEMENT TO THEN-PRESIDENT OF SOUTH AFRICA PIETER W. BOTHA PAGE 8.:

8.

Though i didn't receive a written reply from either of them (or yet from President Reagan providing the instructions i've requested for years now how he would have me complete my "International Diplomatic Work...on a direct basis" to his satisfaction), as i learned more about "Irangate" along with the rest of the world i determined that there were so many similarities between what the conspirators claimed and what was revealed by the investigations and certain, naively-conceived aspects of my "International Diplomatic Work...on a direct basis" that i, at least, decided i wasn't in a position to contend that these "similarities" were only coincidences.

Therefore, i sent two more communications to Mr. Wright--still promising him at least one more that should be sent very soon--and i added a registered letter on September 19, 1987 to U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye, CHAIRMAN OF THE U.S. CONGRESSIONAL IRAN-CONTRA COMMITTEE (received on September 22, 1987), containing a statement to INDEPENDENT SPECIAL PROSECUTOR Lawrence Walsh promising my unqualified help so that he completes his work and responsibilities properly and successfully. According to the terms of the 1978 agreement re continuation and completion of my "International Diplomatic Work...on a direct basis," it would be required of me.

I also sent a registered letter to the late Bayard Rustin (renowned American civl rights activist) on January 21, 1987, and followed it with an April 4, 1987 registered letter to Newsweek's Richard M. Smith (the returned Acknowledgement of Receipt for it was not dated so i don't know exactly when he received it1) because it was that American newsmagazine which first published the next attachment here, written by Bayard Rustin and obviously of interest to you and seemingly consistent with what Desmond Tutu seemed to understand was the underlying point in my two 1986 registered letters to him.
This is suggested by the next attachment here, a copy of which was attached to my December 29,2 1986 statement to SPEAKER OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Jim Wright.

President Botha, i'd assume that if anything disturbs you about the contents of my planned Christmas gift to Archbishop of Capetown Desmond Tutu, it will be the excerpt from the most recent statement i made to SPEAKER OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Jim Wright (sent via Prime Minister Mulroney).
I ask that you consider it in relation to the contents of this overall submission for you--and particularly the full contents of this statement to you.
As is evident, i did the original work in regards to apartheid over 9 years ago, and it's been well over a year since my registered letter to Glenn Babb was received, and i've yet to receive any response by you. I presently believe your reaction to this submission to you will determine the future disposition of the U.S. Congress and President towards South Africa.

(Back to the chronology), Bayard Rustin died before he was able to reply to my submission to him. And i got as ridiculous a reply from Newsweek as the one from the Globe and Mail (as evidenced by the attachment to my June 20, 1986 statement to Glenn Babb). Submissions to the rest of the Canadian press received no replies at all.
I was aghast by the intransigence i suddenly found manifesting itself--given the mounting popular support in Canada and the United States demanding an immediate but peaceful end to apartheid--but for reasons expressed earlier here, i was still not discouraged.

Coincidentally at that time (he works in Toronto, 2800 miles away from Vancouver), i ran into a Canadian journalist on the main street of this city3 that i'd spoken with in December, 1981--about my 1978 work relating to the then-recently announced Reagan Administration nuclear arms reduction plans--and who had accepted document copies from me about my work. (Talking to the press then, by the way, was encouraged by the office of the Canadian Member of Parliament representing the riding i was then living in, former CANADIAN MULTICULTURALISM MINISTER David Crombie.5)
Of all the press i contacted in 1981-82--and i got in touch with all the major Canadian ones--he was the only one of them who had actually taken the time to send me his own written reply--albeit that at that time he indicated he wouldn't be able to help me and suggested i try the largest Toronto daily newspaper's editor, as the enclosed copy of it indicated.
