MOSCOW-Soviet historians are to produce a new outline history of the Communist party providing an objective view of the twists and turns in the country's recent past, the party newspaper Pravda said this week.
Pravda said the new work--to take the place of earlier histories--was discussed at a recent meeting of a Kremlin commission chaired by Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.
"In its preparation, significant new material is being used which will make it possible to cast an objective light on complicated events on the basis of documents and well-checked facts," Pravda said.
It said the new work, for which suggestions from members of the public are welcome, would provide "an academic guide for even more profound, all-round research into the history of the party and Soviet society."
Previous histories have been frequently re-edited and
reissued to take account of a changing party line and the
fortunes of different leaders.
