June 2005 Archives

Hi all,
My phone is on the O2 network and they have brought in a new free service, it`s job in life is to text you missed calls numbers when your phone has been unreachable.
So I get off the tube and even though I had not asked for the service they had set it up and switched it on by default,
I got a text telling me someone had called along with the persons number.
I rang the number and it turns out to be a surprised friend, surprised because his number is suposed to be withheld....Ooops

I wandered into the O2 shop and used their phone to call technical support, the guy at the other end insisted that, no way was it possible for the system to come up with a hidden number of another caller...to the extent he was virtually calling me a liar.
Ok I said, I will take my evidence to the papers and see what they make of it....Aggh cough splutter...what? you`ve got proof???
Of course I have, how about the text you lot sent to me?....ermm we will get back to you....click

5 minutes later they call back apologizing profusely, they`ve run a test and found that there is indeed a bit of a glitch that they did not know about and thank you for alerting them to the fact but there is nothing that they can do about it...followed by loads more apologies :-) I love it when they grovel..

I have since been told that Orange and Vodaphone are running the same sort of service...I wonder if they also have the "glitch"
