The Daily Telegraph reports about the depressing performance of Home Secretary Alan Johnson at the House of Commons Select Committee on Home Affairs oral evidence session on extradition:
Gary McKinnon's mother in tears after snub from Alan Johnson
The mother of Gary McKinnon, the internet hacker fighting extradition to the United States, broke down in tears yesterday after Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary, allegedly refused to talk to her.
By Rosa Prince, Political Correspondent
Published: 6:50PM GMT 10 Nov 2009During a break in a hearing before a House of Commons committee, Janis Sharp attempted to discuss her son's case with Mr Johnson, who shook her hand but walked on in silence.
Earlier, Mrs Sharp had given moving evidence in which she told MPs that the 43-year-old autism sufferer would rather die than be extradited to the United States.

Presumably this was witnessed by the journalists reporting on this Select Committee session, but the Home Office spin doctors seem to be pushing a different version of the encounter.
It was alleged that Mr Johnson "snubbed" Mrs Sharp during the hearing on Tuesday, but a Home Office spokesman has denied the claim.
"It is not true that the Home Secretary walked pass Mrs Sharpe in silence.

When Mr Johnson appeared before the committee, however, he said that he had no discretion over the extradition process, and was merely considering the new medical evidence while Mr McKinnon's lawyers considered whether to refer his case to the European Court in Strasbourg.

This world has a long way to go - and might not make it.
I remember way back in the late 70's when I first surfed the net - I was excited about the possibilities. Information free to all - marking the end of human suffering and prejudice. It gave me hope. As the net grew and exploded with graphics access the politics became a question. The chains that bound us became stressed. I asked myself if we as a civilization could ever redefine ourselves in terms other than profit.
I still have hope. Even though when I look around I see forces bent on secrecy and prejudice.
Given - if you loose hope, you loose everything.
I hope that people wake up. And I also hope that Gary McKinnon's human rights will be protected...
Never loose hope.

Sadly.........the Americans in their stupidity are missing a great opportunity from this guy. Don't take him to court......EMPLOY him you idiots !
Gary did what he did for all the right reason's and for the GOOD of the world, unlike the American government that just want power and domination.
I support everything that Gary did, well done Gary.
Its a very sad situation for Gary. He might have got carried away with harmless online surfing but this does no way gives these corrupt politicians and Judges to lock him in a prison full of REAL criminals.
I don't blame him for having nightmares. Hes already received threats for Sexual abuse in a US prison. Just last week it was reported that a terrorist suspect was water boarded 180+ times in one year? US hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me. Their soldiers commit war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan and they're immune from the ICC? - what a fu*ckin joke!
Here we have an innocent man - his situation really does bring a tear to my eye. As a computer and net enthusiast myself Ive done a bit of harmless hacking myself but this guys is been used as a scapegoat for UK-US politics.
I hope the home secretary should be ashamed of himself.
i feeling very sorry for Gary's mother...

i will pray for you and your son that something good happens soon
Definitely unbiased. Very encouraging. Because I'm not a clear English writer I truly took the criticisms critically. I made a lot to get better. I found this article to be very valuable for my learning and batch knowledge. Thank you for one of the most impulsive write ups I will in all probability ever encounter. I read a great deal in a short period of time. I loved the eye glaze words and style and the ability to pace my reading.
Poor guy. It seems that after all he might not be saved from extradition. His lawyers are doing everything they can. I really feel sorry for him, especially after I watched the movie "Adam" which quite competently presents Aspergers syndrom.
