FACT: Gary accessed the systems through a valid default account that was open. There was no hack AND he did no damage - just looked around.

FACT: The information on the government systems should be open to all citizens - full disclosure - and politicians should be escorted out of office and replaced by an internet based/ tv based self governing system, where we make all the decisions for ourselves. We have the technology now.

How can you call someone who's searching for PROOVES of UFO's a "terrorist" and want him jail for 70years?

Sad how gullible the general public is. An admitted felon tells them he did no harm, was just lookng around, and his human rights were violated and they believe him without asking any questions or doing any research. They even think he is a hero and the real victim in the case!

FACT: McKinnon is not charged with "hacking," he is charged with unauthorized access. Whether the account had a password or not, it was not his account and thus he was not authorized to enter.

FACT: McKinnon admitted to installing a remote-control program on dozens of NASA and military PCs, so that even if the administrators had fixed the password issue of which McKinnon claims to have alerted them, he would have created a back door so that he could return. That constitutes hacking.

FACT: Information on government computers includes personal information about citizens, information about the security of public and private facilities, defense plans, etc., which should not be available to the public.

If McKinnon found such valuable information, then why doesn't he share it with everyone, as you and others here urge the government to share such information? Do you honestly believe that someone who spent hundreds of hours allegedly searching for data on UFOs was unable to hit when he finally found that information? Or that an image that took a long time to download and displayed on his screen was not downloaded onto his computer anywhere that he could access it later?

If McKinnon was just looking for UFOs and free energy, then why did he write a threatening note deriding U.S. foreign policy and (allegedly) delete thousands of accounts from a Domain Controller, effectively shutting down a large network for several days? Isn't that the same kind of abuse of power for which you lambast the U.S. and U.K. governments?

Saying that McKinnon's human rights are/will be violated is just insulting to those who have endured actual human rights violations. McKinnon is simply not in the same class as victims of genocide, torture, etc. Nor is he likely to ever be in such a class, at the hands of the Evil Americans(TM), or from anyone else.

That he has supposedly suffered over the last 7 years is a product purely of his own unwillingness to accept the consequences of his actions. He has NOT taken responsibility for his conduct, instead making the ludicrous and contrary-to-the-evidence claim that he did no damage. It is like shooting someone with a gun and then admiting that you illegally possessed the gun.

At any time that he wishes the opportunity to contest the damage claims it is solely within his power to submit to extradition and in less than 6 months he can be arraigned, have a trial, and (if convicted) be sentenced. It is only as a result of his pointless and meritless appeals that this has dragged on so long. Otherwise he would long ago have been free of this and could be living his life again. I guess it is true what they say, a brave man dies but once, a coward dies a thousand times.

FACT: He was unable to download the UFO image because he was on a DIAL UP COMPUTER seven years ago. That's why it would take that long to download. Have you ever used Dial Up? especially seven years ago.

FACT Remotely Anywhere is a commercially available tool used by thousands of people on a daily basis. Not some evil hacker tool.

McKinnon did a simple scan for blank passwords and was shocked to see there were thousands. Whereas every real hacker from various countries around the world already knew the U.S security was crap.

Re-9/11: Normal American protocol requires fighter jets to fly alongside any plane that is flying off course. They are told to monitor the pilots, assess who's flying etc and they will force a plane to land or even blow it up if the plane won't land and the threat is deemed serious.

However despite a plane being flown of course for a full twenty minutes, not one fighter jet flew up to assess the situation, even though one plane was supposedly flying towards the Pentagon.

You only need half a brain to realise that something was not right there. Which is why McKinnon BRAVELY left a note saying that he believed it was no accident that there was a stand down after 9/11.

McKinnon knew that normal protocol had not been followed and that there were no passwords or firewalls on thousands of machines.
He therefore believed that the U.S government was guilty of state sponsored terrrorism.

WHERE WERE THE FIGHTER JETS?

His "disruption" was "notes left on computers"...In the form of a cyber peace protest and cyber grafitti.

He has not murdered anyone and should absolutely not be extradited for a relatively minor crime that the U.S tries to turn into some BIG crime because of their own embarrassement.

Gary McKinnon is resigned to being tried in his own country.
However the U.S told the Director of Public Prosecutions and the CPS (just over a week ago)that 5 years was not a long enough sentence and that's why they are still insisting on extradition, then this goes to prove that they intend to lock Gary McKinnon up for decades... because they are vindictive to the end.

Now Answer this if you dare: Would you rather a real terrorist had "alerted" you to the fact that your security was virtually non existent.

We all know that Gary would never get any trial in the U.S.

Gary McKinnon was traced by a student in an American university (Not by the military).
When the prosecutors put in the indictment that McKinnon had damaged the computers on every machine he was on, the university said McKnnon had not caused any damage.
So they were then "quietly" removed from the indictment.

$5,000 dollars of damage on each machine was required to prosecute federally, so magically this was the exact figure claimed.

The only so called damage was that they had to upgrade their systems, so perhaps you ought to thank Gary McKinnon for that, rather than trying to crucify him.

This Treaty is going to fail because the U.S is taking the p.ss out of Brits.

We were told that this one sided extradition treaty was to be used only for terrorists and Gary McKinnon is clearly not a Terrorists although I have no doubt if extradited, the U.S prosecutors would attempt to turn him into one in order to save face.

However the U.S is trying to extradite British Airways Execs for "price fixing" and are trying to extradite entrepeneurs and business men and women.

The U.S also tried to extradite British hoteliers aged in their 70's because the U.S claimed they hadn't paid tax "SIXTEEN YEARS" ago.
They then "allowed" the hoteliers Mr & Mrs Tollman to plead guilty by video link and to pay millions of pounds in fines to America, plus they were forced to give most of their hotels away, that way they avoided extradition and were sentenced to one days probation.

Mrs Tolman was suicidal with worry of extradition which is apparently why her husband pled guilty.

There are many other examples of this. All these extradition requests happened after the one sided treaty started being used as no evidence was then required which allowed the U.S to start taking the piss.

Extradition used to be used only for murder and the like, so what is happening here.

Many U.K citizens have been extradited and are currently facing extradition under this treaty which has to be thrown out.
Our spineless U.K government has betrayed us all.

Now, on another issue, I think sometimes the government sets traps to set people up (nobody knows for sure), however, the US Gov. will spin this issue so that they can extract ever more money to pump into public and black operations. It doesn't make sense that a network like the one Gary supposedly hacked into would be left unprotected. I reiterate that it could very well have been a trap. The USA Gov used the outcome of 911 to get what? More money for the military. Now Gary's case represents another opportunity to get more money to make our country more secure. See how it works. Formula: Create or allow security breaches and control the outcomes and you have a continuing source of money. To date, there is little or no scrutiny of the US military budget.

The Information Age

What the information age means to me is information sharing, And when the net first started back in the 70's I remember surfing text-based government and university sites. It has grown amazingly fast. The net always inspired me as a place where a great new world could emerge. A world free from poverty, violence, environmental destruction - could possibly be stopped by the combined effort of a global community.

Originally the net was for sharing research among scientists, and the government, but now there is a definite push to have control and censorship - the opposite of what the net 'is'. This would spell the death of the net - if the government was allowed to censor at the borders and control and regulate information flow.

I know it may seem trivial to some - but we are fighting a war - right now - right in our livingrooms.

Han - how do you know that 911 was not staged? How do we know if the hole in the military network was not staged for Gary? Well, I guess we never will really know - will we - because the government information is not available to us - so they can do whatever they want, spend our money the way they want, and we never know the difference.

Protocol when a plane flies off course: Fighter jets are sent up to fly alongside and monitor the pilot to see if he's being held hostage. Also to monitor the passengers.

Another thought pertaining to the 'legal team'.

Thinking back - when evidence went missing on my daughters case - I have a question for Gary's Mom.

Don't you think it should be standard practice for a 'professional' to have made copies of documents, photo's, recordings, AND to safeguard the originals with their life?

After all - lawyers must sign an oath similar to a physicians hypocratic oath, stating that they WILL serve their clients defense and non other. Otherwise they can be brought in front of the BAR and in a worse case senario de-barred from practicing law.

The missing evidence was my que to get a new legal team, and I am so glad I followed my gut instincts. The lawyer originally hired ended up going to work for the other side! So it was clear to me that he was delibrately botching evidence - obviously was paid a largeg sum of money to do so and was given a higher paying position with the other side.

Amazing how people trust lawyers, doctors and politicians - DON'T DO IT ! - they are all corrupt - will prostitute themselves for the right price!

I struggle with all the technical and legal jargon and their varied implications, but from what I understand Gary has accepted that snooping in someone elses files is wrong - he's apologised and is willing to be punished for his actions, so long as that punishment is reasonable and fitting to the crime. Take into account his Asperger's Syndrome and the US approach seems (to a simple citizen)rather heavy handed to say the least.
It would be interesting to understand the real fear. What is hidden, how easily it can be found and who stands to be most emarrassed?

Gary is fully prepared to be tried and sentenced in the U.K. His very minor crime hould not be an extraditable offence.

Gary is not fighting Prosecution. Gary is Fighting Extradition and rightly so.

Only serious criminals should be extradited and even then, evidence should have to be provided but at the moment the U.S is taking the piss by trying to extradite Business man Ian Norris, British Airways Execs. recently the Tolmans who are Hoteliers aged in their seventies, to name but a few.

All these extraditons were requested after our government signed the unfair one sided extradition treaty with the U.S.
Prior to that only murderers etc were extradited.
