I cant say I have alot of sympathy because he did break the law in a very stupid way, at a very stupid time.

HOWEVER what he faces, a life time in jail, is a ridiclous sentence from a nation lost in its own paranoia.

I have to say, faced with that prospect, if I was in Mr McKinnon's shoes, I might be giving serious consideration to going on a canoe trip.

If this guy had fessed up hew would have served six months and been home a long time ago. The concept of setting him free or not extraditing him are just as insane as if an American broke into MI6 and petitioned for a reprieve on the grounds that he is a 'small fish' or that the British are 'inhumane'. His argument to block extradition is nonsense. He, like all who break the law, feels that it's ok because he had a reason, or because it was the 'means to an end". It's a joke.

There is no need to lock him up for the rest of his life for tinkering with a computer system, when murders and child molestors go free after 10 years. Anyone who cannot see that is a moron. A complete and utter moron.

As someone who is only barely computer literate I am amazed that this is possible. However anyone with any sense can see that Gary simply became carried away! Surely he probably couldn't believe what he was able to get into and that fed his 'addiction'. Also doing this in his front parlour made it all seem terribly unreal.
Legally, it seems incredible to 'allow' him to be extradited on what is blatantly a wholly embarrassing episode for USA and he is simply a scapegoat for their incompetence. My heart goes out to Gary and his family.

You look like me to be American, although I apologise if wrong. I think you will find the ONLY citizens treated differently are American citizen, as their Government refuses to extradite them under ANY circumstance. Hypocrisy shows such a low form of intelligence.

How can a country well known for torture be allowed to extradite someone? crackers I say.

I think I stated a year ago that Gary should get used to wearing an orange jumpsuit and plasti-cuffs, he's going to Gitmo, for acting like a terrorist. UFO hunting (yea right)...Enough money has been wasted on this already, lets get it done...

I think the truth in all this, is that the U.S. is afraid to leave Gary out of jail, as he's a threat to National Security, because of his ability, not because he intends, or intended to cause any harm. It's an embarrassment to them as well, that someone could break into their systems so easily. If you think about it, it shouldn't be possible to hack into them, if they're so secure. He could have handed this information over to real terrorists, but he hasn't done so, which indicates that he did not wish to cause harm.

What exactly is he being tried for anyway? Where is the evidence that he deleted files and caused damage? Can they really prove that, or is it like in Guantanamo Bay where they make things up and force people to confess?

If you think the US gives fair trials/justice, why is Guantanamo Bay allowed to exist? Further, the US supports torture, we should not be extraditing people to a country which does not stick to the Geneva Convention. The other issue with him being tried in the US, is that we are being told that he may be locked up for 70 years, does anyone believe that to be a fair time to pay when rapists and murderers get far less?

As for fairness in extraditing people, if someone from the US broke into MI6 they would not be extradited to the UK. The US 'protects' its citizens.

I am astounded that Gary McKinnon could be jailed in the USA or anywhere else for hacking into US military computer systems. On the contrary he should be praised and rewarded for exposing security weaknesses in these systems which could have been exploited by any rogue state to the detriment of the free world.

The free world is in debt to Gary McKinnon. Any punishment whatsoever would be a travesty of justice.

Their accusations are illogical, often accusing the VERY SAME Jews of being both ruthless capitalist bankers, & communists. Most, I suspect are immature individuals, unable to realise that reading something on the internet does not make it true, & lacking in any factual knowledge of the history of Zionism or Israel. This makes them easy targets for those who delight in repeating what they know to be patent lies in order to slander Jews.

The sad thing is, that it is precisely this sort of inability to filter fact from fiction, history from conspiracy that led Gary Mckinnon to hack US military computers, with the disproportionate response from the US we are seeing know.

I truly hope that an American court will have the sense to realise the absurdity of these charges & throw them out, but I fear that with all the media attention this case has received that will not be the case, & Gary will face an extremely long sentence in a US prison, & those with a cnscience will have to ensure he is not forgotten, & agitate for his case to be re-examined.

That is probably Gary's only hope; that through ongoing media comments on his case they will look ridiculous & feel foolish for what they have done & send him home.
Gary was in retrospect extremely stupid in refusing the original US offer of a plea bargain & short sentence. By doing that he has forced the US to pursue this case to its sadly illogical conclusion, bringing unwanted media attention, & causing the US to react with an overblown authoritarian stance.

If Gary has any sense he should accept his situation, go to the USA, & plead for mercy. I think most appalling is the obviously very shoddy legal representation he has received through all this. His lawyers should have told him that if his decision was to fight the US extradition demands they were dropping his case, rather than foreseeing the coming media circus & potential goldmine for themselves & agreeing to pursue the case against their own better legal knowledge. Poor Gary, shafted by the US, & his solicitors here in the UK.
