Parliamentary Written Answer 11 September 2006:
US-UK Extradition TreatyMr. Clegg: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many representations he has received on the US-UK Extradition Treaty in 2006. [88327]
John Reid: This information can be provided only at disproportionate cost.
11 Sep 2006 : Column 2238W
The Home office could not cope with the number of Representations to the Home Secretary sent by Gary McKinnon's supporters, let alone the other people who are being unjusttly treated by the bureaucrats who are implementing the provisions of this one sided treaty.
Surely it is a trivial matter for the Home Office civil servants to keep a running total of the number of emails and letters they get on a given subject ? It is not as if they have to go and commission independent research from the general public, they have all the relevant data to answer this Parliamentary Question from the Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesman, at their fingertips, or they should have, if the Home Office was actually "fit for purpose".
What are they trying to hide with the dubious "disproportionate cost" excuse ?

So Dr Reid has no idea as to the volume of representation made to him?
Nice to know that the opinion of the people counts to those whom we empower.
The message is clear, "We will atempt to do as we please, irrespective of the views of the people who have elected us to represent them."
I urge people as a matter of some urgency to write to, and to meet with, face-to-face, their local Member of Parliment, to let them know exactly how you feel.
Unless they confirm their opposition to the extradition of Gary Mckinnon, tell them that you will not be voting for them due to the attitude of Parlimentarians such as themselves and John Reid, who feel that they can brush aside the views of the masses.
Let them know that we will not be silenced!

To whom it may concern. This is a time of great tension with regard to anglo-american relations. Whilst I do not endorse what Gary Mckinnon has done, the hacking into of computer files he had no right to, I do not agree with the potential imprisonment of 70 years abroad. It is well known that imprisonment at Gwantanimo bay would risk his life. He is not a murderer, terrorist or rapist like so many held in that establishment.
In all honesty Mr Reid, I think you over estimate your position in the chain of command. If you stand up against the American goverment for one of our own, who knows what relations the Brits would have abroad. I suppose by going along with everything the US govermental agencies are saying Gary has done, without providing hard conclusive proof, you are "protecting British Interests".
Sending him abroad through the extradition process is not justice, it's another poor example of Britains lap dog mentality to the US.
Yours Sincerely

To the layman, I'm sure this all seems quite silly. Indeed, McKinnon is somewhat of a folk hero. But as a network administrator, I have to deal with script kiddies like McKinnon all the time. These urchins waste billions in having to defend against their hacks and illicit curiosity. I hope he likes being Bubba's bitch.

@ Jamie Richards - are your computer networks like those of the US Military in this case i.e. negligently insecure, and so incompetently audited as not to detect exisitng misconfigurations for the better part of 2 years ?
If so, then you should be facing disciplinary action, and, if your computer network really is vital to national security , then you and your superiors should be facing a court martial or a criminal prosecution.
You should reconsider your allusion to prison rape - since when is that a proportionate and just punishment for Gary McKinnon's or anybody else's alleged crimes ?

I have an idea...
why don't we close up all the
courthouses in the world
and send all to the
USA?
Duh - what is wrong with you people?
stuart
The thing that i can't comprehend around this whole case is - why would they even need an extradition order given the USA is still a colony of Great Britain!

The first link i posted is now dead. Strange, since it's been up there for years. Luckily, the webmaster doesn't seem to know her stuff and you can still find the paper.

This government is just prooving David Icke right. We all need to wake up and see that the U.K. and the U.S. are trying to make a dictatorship Nazi type world. We have to do everything to make sure that Gary does not go to the U.S.

I am an American and I say let him go now.Gary. As a matter of fact, we should be trying to hire this man.
What he did was right. The lies and disinformation on this subject make me sick. Challenge the US. I have maps of underground bases in the united states. Let us in to one of these installations and see what you are working on. Wright Patterson would be a good place to start. Then Dulcy NM would be my next choice then Groom lake. If there is no trace of what we claim then I will go to jail with Gary. I know it is there 100% But I also understand why it can NOT be disclosed. But the gig is up. Tell us enough to say; OK people we are working on some extraterestrial programs. We cannot go into detail. You are not in danger and when we can we will give you full disclosure. That will end all the BS. It is everywhere. I love America. I trust America. But it does not change the fact they are keeping something from us. I feel it is in our best interest to not know. Or I believe we would know. Yes what Gary did is a crime. But The reason he did it was Honorable. Does the court think for 1 minute that if 5 million people had his know how they wouldnt be doing the same thing. YES THEY WOULD. No question about it. Now the damage he supposidly caused...hahahahahahaha There was no damage come on. Some Idiott got there pride hurt. Let Gary design a hack proof program for us and it wont happen again. Give him 100 thousand dollars. Create the program. Go home to the UK and be well.
If the court even considers extradition for the time the US wants. Well I would not live in the UK long. I would have to say it is being run by Brown nose'rs and Cowards.
Max 6 months. Best senerio. Hire him for wakeing us all up......
