UK-US Extradition vote lost in Parliament

Whilst we were mulling over the news of Gary McKinnon's extradition hearing last Wednesday 10th May 2006, it appears that our elected Members of Parliament were debating, and voting on an Amendment to the Police and Justice Bill, which would have sorted out the unfair UK-US extradition arrangements.

Unfortunately, although all the Opposition parties voted for this amendment, there was only a single Labour rebel, and the votes was lost

According to PublicWhip:

Police and Justice Bill — New Clause 8 — Extradition to the United States of America — 10 May 2006 at 17:45 — Commons Division No. 227

The Noes won by 293 to 224 (majority 69) with 4 tellers, making a turnout of 521.

Incredibly, even "left wing anti-American" Labour MPs voted like sheep, according to the NuLabour Government whip. Follow the PublicWhip link to see which way your Member of Parliament voted on this issue, and if you disgree, then let them know via the WriteToThem website.

You can read the debate here on TheyWorkForYou.com - the excuses used by the Government are simply wrong.

On a happier note, 450 people have signed up to the PledgeBank Pledge:
