Blog Genesis

The genesis for this blog came at at the end of a somewhat drunken "London 2600" meeting in some strange underground pub in Soho.

My BlogMaster (BM) offered me some space on his server, but given that I had no proper home and was living in rented accommodation without a phone .. I didn't take up the kind offer.

I figured that the local cyber-cafes saw enough of me anyhow.

Nearly a year later and I am settled in my own home .. more importantly my ADSL arrived last week .. it had been nearly 2 years since I had proper Internet access and a home network.

I was ready for it OK. So I emailed my BM, accepted his kind offer, and here I am.

What is this blog for? Who knows?

My BM suggested:

"Write your first blog for fun, and to explore the limitations of the format ... It depends how much of a personal diary you want to make it - have a look a at all the teenage angst and trivia of a typical LiveJournal blog. You can always set up another blog for a specific project, e.g. your next book"

I'd prefer to think of this blog as a kind of scrapbook or notebook.

When I travel in India I buy a cheap notebook and fill it with scraps, cuttings, quotes, references, beer bottle labels, doodles, etc.

I'd like to think of this blog as the digital equivalent of those cheap notebooks.

I have a lot of scraps laying around for book projects that never flew, a (very large) collection of standard rants, some (totally opinionated) opinions and very defined likes and dislikes ... and once I get started I won't shut up ..

.. guess I'm qualified to start a blog then ...

final word .. my BM said to me:

"Perhaps you could write up your ADSL and WiFi installation trials, tribulations and triumphs"

so I guess that's next up then ...
