What the fuck?
Either this is a humungous scandal or a complete misunderstanding.
@ QuestionThat - so far there has been no straightforward apology or clarification from Andy Burnham himself.
There has been some spin from an anonymous spokesman, which indirectly apologises to Shami, but that does not answer our Questions about possible phone snooping.
Why should Labour politicians and their hangers on, be trusted not to break the snooping rules (not necessarily illegally, given the huge exemptions and lack of effective safeguards), for political advantage, when they are so cavalier with the rules and procedures regarding the safeguarding of national security documents, and the private data of millions of ordinary citizens ?
The crucial question is: How did Burnham find out about the phone calls?
Perhaps it was through the Westminster gossip mill. Perhaps it was something Chakrabarti has said that he gotten wind of. Perhaps it was something Davis has said that he has gotten wind of.
But if it is through snooping then this ought to be a national scandal.
Chakrabarti was interviewed on the Today programme shortly after Davis anounced his resignation (possibly the following morning). She said that Davis had informed her of his decision and she'd asked him to reconsider. During the interview she made it clear that the discussion was after Davis had talked it over with Cameron. So, depending on when Davis had talked to Cameron (and probably other interested Tories) it is reasonable to assume that the conversation was probably quite late in the evening and therefore probably by phone. It'll be on the Today site somewhere.
According to Ben Brogan's blog at the Daily Mail, Shami Chakrabarti is asking for a written apology from Andy Burnham, or she might sue for defamation.
See Apologise for "smear" or I'll sue, Shami tells Burnham
Perhaps they should get together in a posh Covent Garden eatery and share a skinny latté whilst comparng notes about their favourite eye liners.
At the 'Liberty'(?) AGM on 7th June I denounced Shami Chakrabati, verbally & in writing. I wrote that she was a total sham, a false flag agent, a puppet of the Police State, conspiring to cover up State Crime, that she was the lowest of the low, worse than Hitler, Himmler, Heydrich & Co. Why does she not sue me? Because it is all completely true! She & Davis are certainly bedfellows, metaphorically, if not between the sheets.
Norman Scarth. Candidate at the Haltemprice & Howden By-election.
My own blog address was mis-spelt in my original comment. Should be: http://normanscarth.blogspot.com
@ Norman - why hasn't she sued you, yet ? Perhaps she has taken pity on you, because of your age, and your prison sentence, despite your offensive and transparently obvious lies.
Have you been manipulated by NuLabour apparatchiki or by some other extremists, to act as a distraction agent in this by-election, to allow them to ridicule people standing up for civil liberties issues ?
Spy Blog does not provide a platform for conspiracy theorists.
the answer to your question is: No

It's shocking that those 'people' with no names have that kind of power at all in the first place in what is supposed to be a Liberal Democracy!!! Let alone doing it to these people!!
On a more personal note I have been trying to contact David Davis (and Shami, but she just ignored me....) but can't find a contact for him now he has resigned!!! Anybody help me?
I have a story to tell to....just email if you are interested in this sort of stuff!!!
@ Jake - try the contacts at his by-election campaign website:
