Kazi Nurur Rahman - another case of entrapment ?
The Fertiliser Bomb Plot also brought to light, the hitherto suppressed case of
Kazi Nurur Rahman, who seems to have been entrapped in a sting operation, where he failed to purchase 3 Uzi sub-machine guns and ammunition from undercover agents.
Presumably his involvement with the US "supergrass" witness Mohammed Junaid Babar who gave testimony in the Fertiliser Bomb Plot trial led to the secrecy.
However, his conviction for 9 years for "pleading guilty to attempting to possess property intending it should be used for the purpose of terrorism"
One of the officers, posing as 'Mohamed', offered to sell him the guns, together with silencers and 3,000 rounds of ammunition. Rahman offered to pay £1,000 per gun.David Farrell QC, prosecuting, said: "This purchase was intended to be the first of other purchases, he being in negotiation, albeit in the early stages of negotiation, for the purchase of even more potentially deadly terrorist weapons, including a Sam-7 missile and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs)."
Rahman was quoted a price of around £70,000 for the missiles and RPGs, a figure which he said was "no problem".
If Rahman had access to £70,000 in cash, that would make him the top terrorist financier in the UK , with access to more cash than the 7th July bombers, the 21st July bomber attackers, the Fertiliser Bomb Plotters, Dhiren Barot etc. combined.
There does not seem to be any evidence that he really had this amount of money.
He is certainly not on the Bank of England's terrorist finance blacklist.
So no actual purchase, and no actual evidence of any money or terrorist finance, just like previous entrapment / "sting" operations
We do not feel any safer as a result of the time and effort wasted in manufacturing terrorists , where none existed before, via such entrapment / sting operation.
Was this case influenced by the US entrapment of Hemant Lakhani (arrested in August 2003) or the ludicrous and non-existent "Red Mercury" trial (arrests in September 2004).?
Surely those resources would have been better deployed in following up the July 7th bombers Mohammad Sidique Khan and Shehzad Tanwee, after they had been found as part of the surveillance of the Fertiliser Bomb Plotters ?
