state #36

friends,

good evening, and happy tuesday evening to all! episode 245 is here, and features two new (in-process-ish) recordings, some lyrics, and a few meanderings about how idealism + experience + time + disappointment seem to interweave and temper each other. all in eighteen minutes flat... ;)

if you can, i hope you'll take a listen.

love,
russell

in other words...

friends,

good evening, and welcome to tuesday night! i just posted episode 244 - a quiet little podcast featuring me and a few live/new songs. if you have time to listen, you may notice that i'm feeling a bit grumpy and out of sorts tonight. i wish that wasn't the case, but, alas, the mood will pass. with that limitation in mind, i do hope you'll find some value in the songs...

they are:
1) state #36
2) point & wave
3) in other words
4) gemeinutz

wishing everybody a great week. :)

love,
russell

time travel, etc.

friends,

it's raining and dreary in san francisco tonight, but - despite the mood - i'm happy to deliver episode 243! tonight begins where last week left off, and features a few (more) of my lo-fi songs from back in the day (a.k.a. 1994), along with some (more) rambling and perspective from me in the present (a.k.a. tonight).

for whatever reason, i've noticed that old songs tend to put me in a bit of a strange/embarrassed/defensive mode somehow - which is difficult to explain and say correctly. i'm not sure if the "defensive" part comes through (hopefully not), but the feeling of it makes me curious nonetheless. i'm fascinated by how life and age and time and experience change us - how our current selves are both opposite and identical to our young(er) selves - how we remember being the earlier version of us, and are that person now, and also aren't at all. it's weird. hm. i fear i'm not making any sense, so i'll stop typing. :)

alas, if you have time, i hope you can take a listen.

love,
russell

ps - please don’t forget the links i mentioned:

1) you can hear samples from (and buy) the procrastinistas cd at: cdbaby.com/cd/procrastinitas, or on itunes (if you search for the procrastinistas).

2) the lectures by nick cave are out of print, but reviews are still on amazon and at nick-cave.com.

way tight

friends,

this week is off to a busy start, so i decided to post episode 242 a bit early. this is partly due to necessity (busy week, culminating with the procrastinista show this friday night @ hotel utah!), and also partly because i walked home tonight listening to ani difranco, and wanted to share the things i did. if you have a chance, i really hope you'll take a listen. :)

have a great week!
russell

ps - if you don't know the music of ani difranco, you should.
