podcast + show this friday night!

friends,

i'm very happy to announce a solo/acoustic show this upcoming friday night, august 27, 8:30-11pm, at socha cafe in san francisco. socha is a great spot in outer mission - located at 3235 mission street. more details and directions can be found at: sochacafe.com

i'm honored to be sharing the evening with follow singer/songwriters and friends (and podcast contributors) brent calderwood and marianne barlow.

tonight's edition of the podcast (episode 206) finds me sifting through songs, and trying to build a set. it's a bit like an appetizer (for those who can make it out for the show on friday night), and a substitute in lieu of live (for those who can't). :)

as always, thank you so much for spending your time with me in this way. i really do appreciate it, and hope to see you soon!

love,
russell

freddie mercury

friends,

tonight's podcast finds me in the midst of remembering (or, more accurately, speechlessly in awe of) the talent and power of freddie mercury and his band queen. i only rarely do covers, but, after re-stumbing upon the song "too much love with kill you" from queen's 1995 cd "made in heaven" this weekend, i couldn't resist.

honestly, i'm never-endingly amazed by, and appreciative of, how beautiful and poignant and helpful music can be - especially when words themselves come up short. for whatever reason, that's how things feels tonight. i wish i had a better way of saying it directly, and i'm humbled by how little i understand of the bigger/deeper how's and why's of being alive. it's beautiful for sure... and (more than) a bit frustrating not to be able to express it more clearly. i guess i'm just thankful. i'm pretty sure that's what i mean. :)

in lieu of explanations, i hope you can join me for episode 203!
