goodbye 2006

as usually happens when it's just me on my own, i get a little bit emotionally carried away with episode 17. i set out to play a bunch of break up songs and talk about how they're related to the end of the year, and (by extension) life in general... pain, thoughtfulness, change, hope. it all seems romantic and sad and true to me. in retrospect, it turns out that none of the songs i chose are actually break up songs. which is funny. i apologize! :) all the same, i sorta force the issue, and talk about it anyway. i mean, all sad songs can be break up songs, can't they? i think so. and all hopeful ones too. oddly. but beautifully.

i hope the show makes some sense to you, and doesn't seem too sappy and sloppy. i know my heart is on my sleeve here (embarrassingly), but the truth is i really mean it. i'm honored that you're reading this, and here. and i'm even more honored if you have time to listen. i care what you think. maybe you'll say hi and tell me how you see it? i hope you will.

ok, that's it.
i hope everyone has a great new year!

love,
russell

more with jonas

jonas returns this week! this time with his new cd in tow. it's cool. i really enjoyed this conversation, and hope you will too. it's not often you get to hear an artist sit down and really talk about how it feels as they release a project into the world. jonas opens up and really shares his take on songwriting and living and how they fit and intermix and connect. plus the new songs are really good! hope you'll check it out...

let's talk about love songs

episode 15 is all about love songs. i play lots of different kinds, and talk about how they seem to me. i'm sure i missed a lot of nuance and feeling, so i hope you'll listen too, and let me know which ones you like (and why), or (even better) the love songs you love that i missed. maybe we should do a regularly recurring lovesong show? i like the idea.

special thanks to nick guerrero, nico (+ the mannequins), patrick kobernus (+ slyway), josh armerding, jonas, and liz angelucci, for contributing songs this week. i'm honored that they let me share their music in this way. :)

please listen, ok? hope you enjoy!

russell

ps - please note the new link above for archived shows... apologies to all for the earlier confusion.

pps - stay tuned for more music from jonas next week!

exclusive jonas!

jonas is here! episode 14 is a total treat, featuring a rare live in-studio performance by jonas. for those of you who don't already know him, jonas is one of the longtime simplemuzik artists (featured on www.simplemuzik.com), and was part of nick g's legendary first band "the nick g. hard drive." jonas joins me for over an hour, talking about his ideas, experiences with music, and the new upcoming cd. even better, there's more to come! jonas has agreed to come back in a few weeks to give us a sneak peak into his new cd. can't wait!

in the meantime, hope you'll check out this weeks show...

you can listen to older episodes...

there appears to be some of confusion about how to listen to old episodes. happily, there's a simple answer! you can access all episodes of the podcast through itunes (by clicking the link above, or searching for "simplemuzik" or "russell david" in the itunes podcast section). the neat thing about itunes is that you can "subscribe," which will automatically download new episodes as they are updated. or, for non-apple users (or those who hate itunes), you can access all episodes via feedburner. the feedburner link is also located above (the "powered by" flame logo).

or you can simply click here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/SimpleMuzikPodcast

hope this helps!
