Pope Tells Reporters Church Should Be 'House of Glass'

ROME, Jan. 27 (UPI)--Pope John Paul II received a group of 1,200 journalists today and told them that the Roman Catholic Church wanted to be like "a house of glass," carrying out its work openly for all to see.

The Pope met with the journalists from Italy and the Vatican press corps in Benediction Hall after saying a special mass for them in St. Peter's Basilica.

"The church is trying hard and will always try harder to be a house of glass where all can see what is happening and how it carries out its mission in faithfulness to Christ and the evangelical message," he said.

Vatican sources said the speech appeared to reflect a wish for more openness in church affairs.
