PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER:
11.
I am aware that some translations of this surah have titled
it "The Night Journey".
My copy of the Qur'an is from a translation by
Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall, copyright under the
Berne Convention.
I am further aware of the Moslem belief that the Qur'an
cannot be translated (effectively).
Clearly, the basis of my report is one of choice and respectful
of the Moslem right to determine his own belief and state it,
i(sic) [and] seek it.
In the exposition, i referred to specific verses. Noting verses
12 through 14, i quote:
"12. And We appoint the night and the day two
portents. Then We make dark the portent of the night, and We
make the portent of the day sight-giving, that ye may seek
bounty from your Lord, and that ye may know the computation of
the years, and the reckoning; and everything have We expounded
with a clear expounding.
"And every man's augury have We fastened to his own neck, and
We shall bring forth for him on the Day of Resurrection a book
which he will find wide open.
"(And it will be said unto him); Read thy book. Thy soul
sufficeth as reckoner against thee this day."1
I wear a gold heart around my neck.
Further to the lyrics that i enclosed in the November 20, 1981
report, i enclose the lyrics to "When
The Spirit Moves Me".
And concerning sending the lengthy exposition when i am ready
to (and if it is necessary), i noted verse 18. It reads:
"18. Whoso desireth that (life) which hasteneth away,
We hasten for him therein that We will for whom We please. And
afterward We have appointed for him hell; he will endure the
heat thereof, condemned, rejected."2
There is a very long section in the exposition which was
originally addressed to Israeli Ambassador to the United
Nations, Yehuda Blum, concerning difficulties in
determining what is the fundamental characteristic of the Moslem
belief(s)...especially concerning the issues which i am involved
with.
There is evident a rather distinct variance from what i found
from researching this concern. Bearing in mind that i still have
to resolve the issue of the suspended goodwill concerts (which i
have addressed in recommendation fourteen of the enclosed
'potential' accord); bearing in mind that in the third
recommendation, i point out the words of Muhammad which are
especially relevant due to the basis from which i originally
entered this concern...which led to recommendations one and
two...i don't necessarily feel that i should rush on this matter
and what treasures of the mercy of my Lord as i may have as a
result of the capabilities He has
given me...are evident in my recommendations and in my reports.3

RHETORIC SAYS), TELLING THE WORLD'S 1.091 BILLION MOSLEMS THAT
WHEN THEY ARE PRESSURED TO COMPROMISE OR SURRENDER THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL AND ESSENTIAL
"PRINCIPLES" OF ISLAM, THEY WILL DECIDE WHO THEY WILL
DO IT FOR, WHEN THEY WANT TO DO IT.
AND IF IN FACT
THEY ARE FORCED TO MAKE SUCH (OVER)COMPROMISES OR BETRAYALS OF
THEIR FAITH, IN THE FUTURE THEY WILL HAVE THEIR REVENGE.

BE IT FOR ME TO MORE THAN SUGGEST HERE THAT THIS SOUNDS
REMARKABLY RELEVANT IN THE CONTEXT OF BOTH THESE CLINTON
SUPPORTERS AND THE WAVERING IMPEACHMENT ADVOCATES YAPPING ABOUT
GETTING THIS IMPEACHMENT PROCESS OVER WITH SO "WE CAN MOVE
FORWARD."
I WILL JUST ASK "THE ISLAMIC CONFERENCE
ORGANIZATION" TO COMMENT WHEN I SEND THEM
THE PROMISED REGISTERED LETTER AT THE SAME TIME I MAKE THE
PROMISED SUMMARY STATEMENTS TO THE VATICAN AND THE ISRAELI
GOVERNMENT.
