Inducts 2011 Class of Fellows

WASHINGTON, DC ―March 18, 2011―
The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists inducted its 2011 Class of Fellows during its Annual Business Meeting on March 18 in Orlando. Manuel R. Garcia, CPO, LPO, FAAOP was one of only twelve people in the nation to receive this distinction this year. The achievement of the designation, Fellow of the Academy, is indicative of the practitioner’s dedication to maintaining high quality patient care through a personal commitment toward continuing education. Active Academy members are eligible to become Fellows of the Academy once they complete the education criteria. Fellows of the Academy are recognized with the initials FAAOP after their name.

The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) founded in 1970, is the pre-eminent professional organization representing practitioners certified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC), state licensed practitioners, as well as assistants, technicians, fitters, and others affiliated with the profession of orthotics and prosthetics (O&P). Academy’s mission is to promote professionalism and advance the standards of patient care through education, literature, research, advocacy, and collaboration. In keeping with this mission, the Academy supports the highest standards for providers to ensure quality comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic services for patients. The Academy provides programs and seminars for continuing education and supports research, outreach, and advocacy to advance the scientific and educational achievements of O&P professionals.

The Academy holds Fellow inductions once each year at the Academy Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium. The 2012 Academy Annual Meeting will be held in Atlanta, March 21 - 24.
