The arrogance of the ego torments us. The price and vanity

into the eye of wisdom, it will roll around inside and hurt so much
that the eye of wisdom will be unable to open. We will be forced to

On the Difficulty of Tolerance

By Baba Galleh Jallow

Tolerance of our views and opinions is one thing we all want
because those views and opinions are expressed from a sense
of being right as far as we are concerned. We express our views
and opinions on an issue because we believe that what we say
makes sense and is an accurate take on the issue at hand.
However, for a lot of people, the difficulty arises when our views
are challenged by others who, incidentally, express their views
and opinions for the very reason that we do – in the belief that
they are right under the circumstances....................

The Gambia: The Rise and Fall of Yahya
Jammeh
(Part 1 of 3)(first published October 2010)  -
By Mathew K. Jallow

The frail, dorky looking man in military uniform who drove pass me
at the MaCcarthy’s Square turn-around in Banjul on a warn July
afternoon in 1994, looked like an unlikely candidate for the
president of anything; much less that of a country like The
Gambia. But, like many Gambians who were disillusioned with Sir
Dawda Jawara's successive governments, I too was willing to give
him a chance. Not that we had the power to change the outcome
of the coup itself; for we did not. In those days and at that moment
in our history, Gambians were ready for something new and

NOTES ON DEFENDING THE GAMBIAN LEFT, I AM NOT

- by Saiks Samateh, Norway

I read with great patience the critic of the Gambian left by Sountu
Touray and  I was not impressed. It was not a good work done and
for a Gambian to make such a serious error on the modern history
of the Political Left in the Gambia, when  most of the actors are
still alive, leaves us with a little room to doubt if this was a serious
critic or not. I can forgive Arnold Hudghes ,to some extent, for
marking the errors he made in some of his narratives, but for
someone who aspires for an office of higher authority in the
country must not leave us with any doubts that he can handle the
affairs of our nation without any prejudice..................

Fiscal Cliff
By Baba Galleh Jallow

At the Kaats residence. Mrs. Kaat walks
into the living room, switches on TV. Wolf
Blitzer is in the Situation Room. She sighs
heavily and calls out to her husband Raat
    Kaat.

Mrs. Kaat: Hey Raat? They talking about
the fiscal cliff again hon. Seems like it’s
    gotten really bad.
Raat (walking into the living room): I am
just so tired of hearing about this fiscal cliff
thing. I don’t wanna go over no effing cliff
and they keep saying fiscal cliff, fiscal cliff.
Why the hell can’t they do something

GRTS on the brink of bankruptcy
By D. A. Jawo
It is indeed not a surprise to anyone
    that our socalled national
    broadcaster, Gambia Radio and
Radio and Television Services, is in
    a financial mess and virtually
    bankrupt. According to its latest
    financial report laid before the
    National Assembly, the GRTS’s total
liability, “the amount it owes to other
    individuals and institutions, at the
moment are three times more than
the total current assets, all its
    belongings, implying a serious
    liquidity problem.”...............more

Updates from Ndey Sarr- Dakar

Breaking News! I visited Alouine Tine of
Dakar last night. Monsieur Alouine Tine is
a renowned activist base in Dakar. He was
recommended to me by Fatou Jaw
Manneh. Unfortunately, he was in Accra
but we did spoke on phone and he
referred me to some of his lieutenants in
Dakar here! The trip is meant to seek
    support from Senegalese activists.

I was rest assured by them that, incase
the crazy soldiers opened fire on us whiles
on the street, they will enter Gambia and
    join in solidarity with us................more

With the Growing Gambian immigrant population in the

NESTS OF WATER IN THE FIRE
by Sulayman Jeng,  UK

If I could have turn back the hand of
time and desecrate events, 22 July
1994 would not have existed in
    Gambian history. Unfortunately, I
    was lost amidst those Gambians
who stood by and watch the junta
with undefiled hope that they will
    usher in freedom, development,
    peace, prosperity, and two-term
executive limit. Looking back on that
fateful day, it dawned on me that it
was but an illusion nursed by a

Press Release
The Balangbaa Challenge
by Mathew Jallow

    Fellow Gambians, today Tuesday
    November 27, 2012, Yahya
    Jammeh, through the State House,
issued an appeal to Gambians from
Kartong to Koina to help harvest his
    ground-nuts farm in Kanilai village
    in the Western Division. Fellow
Gambians, this appeal is a mindless
insult to all Gambians, bar none.

WHEN WILL YOU SLAP BACK LOVELY SIBLING?
by Domi Gambia

Good morning my Gambian sibling.

I have been fooling myself writing good morning letters to a failed
human leading a failed state. When I wrote the letters I had some
hope that he will change along the way, but today I have lost all
hope. Today I turn to you my lovely sibling, you are my hope. I am
not going to blow your head trying to explain what a failed state is. I
just want you to look at the head of the failed state, and then you

Africa’s Political Skeletons – Part Two
By Baba Galleh Jallow

As indicated in the last installment,
    no colonial power anticipated that
    African countries would become
independent as early as they did.
The thinking in colonial Britain and
    France both before and immediately
after 1945 was that it would take at
least fifty years for Africa to be
    ready for self-rule. There were
    indications especially after 1945

The Dr. Amadou S Janneh Connection
By Mathew K Jallow

This is neither a Coalition for Change
(CCG) response nor an apology for Dr.
Amadou S Janneh’s tenure as Information
and Technology Minister under the Yahya
    Jammeh regime, but Prince Obrien-Coker’
s article is a shocking insinuation that
cannot be supported by any evidence.

It is a stretch; albeit a mortifying one to
make against Dr. Janneh whose service
    was characterized by a not-so-passive
clandestine resistance to the excesses of
    the Yahya Jammeh regime............more
