Cool Gift: Hot Rod Grilling Brush

Hotrodbrush

Even though Father’s Day is a little ways away, here is a cool little item that would make the perfect gift for any self proclaimed grill master.  The Hot Rod Grilling Brush is made out of stainless steel and has a detachable Teflon mop head that can hold tons of your favorite sauce.  This little gem also sports rubber grips and here is the kicker: a built in bottle opener located at the end of the handle.  Not bad for $15.

Keyport: Gadget Conquers Cumbersome, and Noisy, Keys

Keyport

Although still in development, Keyport is one cool item and has definite potential for law enforcement officers or future law enforcement officers.  Imagine how many keys you carry with you and if you can think back to your academy days and the lecture about “tell-tale noises”.  Do memories of your instructor yelling at you to secure you keys and turn off your cell phones (for the newer police generation) prior to a building search ring a bell?  Keyport allows you to place six of your favorite keys into a lighter size gadget and extend and retract them as needed thereby eliminating bulky, and noisy, key rings.  I can think of three keys I carry that are work related so I am definitely going to try this little item out when it hits the shelf.  Although still in development, interested persons can register on their website for product updates and release dates.  I will also follow-up with a re-post when the Keyport is released.

Seven tips for upcoming college graduates

graduation

For all you soon-to-be graduates, here is some sound financial advice and some solid guidelines to follow as you begin your careers.  Student rarely realize until it is too late that when you start applying for a law enforcement position, your future employer will conduct an extensive background check which includes your credit history.  By keeping a solid credit history, you better your chances of landing your first job in law enforcement.

 1) Get one credit card. Pay it off in full each month to start building a good credit history.

 2) Make a budget and separate necessities from desires. Spend on the former, save for the latter.

 3) Buy a suit. Blue, black, and grey are acceptable.

 4) If you have debt, bring it under control by consolidating with one vendor at a low rate.

 5) Start saving for retirement now. This year, not next.

 6) Invest for the long-haul. That means stocks, not bonds.

 7) Write a one page resume, but don't go overboard.

OxyMagic Carpet Cleaning- 10% off for Police and Firefigthers

OxyMagic2.psd

My Review:

I recently found myself in need of a carpet cleaning service for my home office. The problem, what company to choose? After reviewing my options, I decided to give a newcomer on the block a shot and I must say I am glad I did because my carpet looks great.  The company: OxyMagic of ArlingtonAfter my cleaning, I was impressed with the outcome, quick drying time, and the cost.

Deal or Dude?

From their corporate website, Oxymagic claims, “to be the safest cleaning method available today”.  And unlike other carpet cleaning services, OxyMagic uses non-toxic chemicals thereby making it safe for your pets.  The corporate sites make the following claims as well “Our cleaning methods are fast and soft drying, not hard or crunchy like other cleaners. This proves that no sticky residue is left behind and carpets will stay cleaner longer. Because of the power of our oxygen cleaner, less moisture is needed than with other cleaning methods and the typical dry time is around 1 hour!”

I have used other carpet cleaning services in the past and have been disappointed with the results.  Not only was I not really impressed with the overall clean, but I really hated the drying time and the stupid paper booties they gave you and suggested you wear if you had to walk on your carpet before it had time to dry.

I called and spoke with OxyMagic of Arlington owner Jon Coduti and arranged a cleaning.  Although based out of Arlington, TX, Oxymagic of Arlington can handle jobs and referrals throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex area.  Mr. Coduti and I worked out a time convenient to both of our schedules and he personally arrived to clean my carpet.  Being a little skeptical, I decided to put together an impromptu test to really see if this new method of carpet cleaning worked.

The Test

Since the carpet in my home is a darker shade of brown, and although several stains are visible, the dark shade of my carpet makes the effectiveness of the cleaning procedure less apparent then let say on a lighter color carpet.  So I decided to fix that problem by going to a local carpet supplier and grabbing a light colored 2ft x 2 ft carpet sample.

DSCN2558

I chose a non-stain guarded, lower end, almost white carpet sample.  For my test, I took the sample, and drove over the damn thing with my car.  I also trekked through the mud and wiped my dirty shoes on the sample and really tried to grind in the dirt, in true “infomercial” style.

DSCN2560

The Results

DSCN2566

When Jon arrived at my home, he knocked out my carpet in less than an hour.  I was impressed with not only the speed, but with the fact that my carpets were not damp and almost dry when he was finished (No Damn Paper Booties).  The end cleaning results were equally impressive.  Next I sprung my carpet sample on Jon and he without hesitation agreed to give it a shot.  He hit the sample with his machine and the sample was completely clean within five minutes. I can not only say that the Oxymagic™ system works but I also witnessed first hand what it could do.

Summary

DSCN2567

Two thumbs up and if you are in need of a good, professional carpet cleaning service, contact Oxymagic of Arlington and Jon or one of his associates will be more than happy to come out and take care of you.  To give you an idea about the cost, Jon estimates the cost of cleaning four rooms and a hallway at about $150.00. Plus, if you are a police officer or fire fighter, you get 10% off your bill.

Junkmail

Unsolicited junk mail can lead to identity theft.  Unknowingly throwing away pre-approved credit card offers without shredding them can give a coach roach of a human being the opportunity to ruin your credit.  Believe it or not, there is a segment of our society that makes an effort to grab your trash and try to ruin your life by filling out those pre-approved credit card applications as if they were you and diverting an issued card to another address.  Protect yourself and limit your exposure by choosing to opt-out of junk mailing lists, pre-approved credit card offers, and telemarketing call lists.  Do yourself a favor and go to these web sites and remove yourself from pre-approved credit offers, junk mail, catalogs, and harassing telemarketing databases.
